Black students at Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., are boycotting sports and other activities following a student government decision to strike a clause in a black organization’s charter requiring students to be of African descent to hold one of the organization’s leadership posts.

The New Jersey Devils traded backup goaltender Chris Terreri to the San Jose Sharks for a second-round pick in the 1996 entry draft.

Les Horvath, a multipurpose back at Ohio State who won the Heisman Trophy in 1944, died Tuesday of what appear to be natural causes at his home in Glendale, Calif. He was 74.

In Dallas, the new Big 12 voted to play its first championship football game at St. Louis next season after athletic directors were assured that ABC would increase its payout for televising the game to nearly $4 million.
