Nate Perrins Tekoa-Oakesdale Year: Senior Sport: Football Position:Rb/ Db

There were a lot of playoff football games last weekend and it seemed in most cases the offense suffered.

It’s not surprising considering the rain and snow. The few offensive standouts either played on turf or were big bruisers slogging through the muck.

That’s what makes Friday’s 208-yard game by Nate Perrins all the more impressive.

By the time Tekoa-Oakesdale eked out a 30-27 victory over Republic in the first round of the B-11 playoffs, the 5-foot-7 Perrins probably weighed 160 pounds, counting equipment, water and mud.

“I’ve played a couple games in the mud,” said Perrins, who played the whole game on offense, defense and special teams. “We didn’t change. It’s difficult but the line did a good job firing off the ball and I didn’t have to do much cutting.”

Perrins had a touchdown run nullified by a penalty with just over a minute left. The Nighthawks won instead with Tim Freeburg’s 31-yard kick at 1:02 - the second T-O field goal in two weeks - and in school history.

“It’s unfortunate it wasn’t a touchdown,” said Perrins, who scored three times on 36 carries. “It was just another historic Nighthawk field goal.”
