Oilers Bound For Nashville

Compiled From Wire Services

Houston Oilers owner Bud Adams signed a non-binding contract to move his football team from his hometown to Tennessee.

“We have a deal,” Nashville Mayor Phil Bredesen said.

Bredesen flew to Houston to meet with Adams, and said the $292 million deal will include a 30-year lease on the stadium with an option for 10 more years.

St. Louis Rams offensive tackle Jackie Slater was placed on injured reserve, three days after playing his only game this season, effectively ending his career.

At age 41, Slater was the oldest player in the NFL. Sunday’s game was No. 259, fourth on the career list.

The Baltimore Board of Public Works unanimously approved a 30-year, rent-free lease to a $200 million stadium the state will build for Browns owner Art Modell.
