Clausen, Morton Power Nic Wrestlers

Josh Clausen and Josh Morton led North Idaho College with convincing wins on Thursday as the Cardinals opened their wrestling season with a 28-13 victory over Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho.

Wrestling at 177 pounds, Clausen dominated Darin Phillipy, earning a 23-8 technical fall victory.

Morton handled Josh Wright 17-6 in the 150-pound matchup.

NIC heavyweight Aaron McArthur took part in the night’s closest match, falling 5-4 to Tyler Pruwitt when McArthur was penalized in the final seconds for stalling.

At 126, Jessie Schaeffer overcame a 2-0 first-period deficit, using five takedowns and a near fall to pull away to a 13-6 triumph over Jason Bingham.

Girls basketball

Kim Rigg scored 20 points and Katie Lucas had 19 to lead Logos to a 58-51 win over visiting Falls Christian in Moscow.

Sarah Peterson led Falls Christian with 28 points. Audrey Wallace and Ana Pang added eight apiece.

Rachel Lemons chipped in 10 points for Logos, which trailed 40-34 after three quarters.

In Kootenai, Nat Damiano scored 16 points and Jayme Flint finished with 16 as Kootenai defeated Wallace 40-6 in non-league play.

The Miners played the non-league game without leading scorer Joy Sperry, who was ill.

At Mullan, the Lake City JV held Mullan to two points in the second quarter of the Timberwolves’ 34-23 non-league win.

Marni Hayes led Lake City with 15 points, while teammate Hope Anderson grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.

For Mullan, Maria Hegbloom finished with six points, 13 rebounds and five steals.
