Local Students Participate In WSU Leadership Program

Twelve Inland Northwest high school students were among 35 from throughout Washington state to participate in a recent two-day agri-science leadership program at Washington State University.

The students toured the College of Agriculture and Home Economics, met scientists and recent WSU graduates, and participated in laboratory exercises that exposed them to various aspects of agricultural science.

They were selected on the basis of scholarship and leadership potential.

The students and their and high schools are:

Kelli Sanger and Nicole McClenahan, both sophomores at Cheney High, Cheney.

Julie Hedrick, senior, Colville High School, Colville, Wash.

Duane Oehlwein, senior, Christian Heritage High School in Edwall, Wash.

Jason Bishop, junior, Christian Heritage High School, Edwall.

Allen Widman, senior, Liberty High School, Spangle.

Jennifer Kleene, senior, Pullman High School, Pullman.

Summer Beckley and Jared Templin, seniors at Ritzville High School, Ritzville, Wash.

Travis Greenwalt, junior, Liberty High School, Spangle.

Michelle Becker, sophomore, Cheney High School; and Brooke Crawford, senior, Ferris High School, Spokane.

The following students were placed on the President’s List for the summer term at Phillips Junior College for earning a grade-point average of 3.80:

Stewart Wuest, a research agronomist for The McGregor Co. in Colfax, Wash., has been recognized as a top conservation leader by the Soil and Water Conservation Society.

Named as a Berg Fellow, Wuest will attend a policy forum in December in Washington, D.C.

He is one of 17 who will participate in the forum discussing conservation policy and how natural resource professionals can influence the policymaking, appropriations and rule-making process.
