‘Murder 1’ Retreats From ‘Er’ Assault

Newsday

ABC’s “Murder One,” the most hyped, praised and doomed show of the 1995 fall season, will finally get out of the line of fire: The network has announced that the show will go on “hiatus” after this week and then move to Mondays at 10 p.m. Jan. 8. (ABC will air various specials and movies on Thursday nights, at least through the end of the year.)

The Steven Bochco-created drama has been shellacked opposite “ER” on Thursday nights. Since heading to that period - and certain doom - Oct. 12, “Murder One” has mustered no better than an 11 percent share of the audience. (“ER,” meanwhile, has climbed to even greater heights, including an astounding 45 share last week.)

Starting in January, ABC will air a movie from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., then “Murder One.” To reacquaint viewers with the show, a “highlights” program will be produced, to air leading into the Jan. 8 program.

ABC’s 8 p.m. Monday drama, “The Marshal,” has been canceled. Its last regular telecast is Christmas Day.
