Three Remain In Critical Condition After Saudi Bombing Bodies Of Five Americans Killed In Blast Flown Home

Associated Press

Two Americans and a Pakistani were in critical condition Thursday with injuries from a bomb blast at a U.S.-run military training facility.

Three other Americans were taken off the critical list, including a woman whose husband died in the explosion. Their exact conditions were not available.

Georgetta Combs, 52, has been drifting in and out of consciousness and has not been told that her husband, William Combs, is dead, said a U.S. embassy official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Mr. Combs, 54, a civilian employee of the U.S. Army, was among five Americans killed in Monday’s blast. One Indian also died, and about 60 people were injured. Thirty-seven Americans were injured, and 11 are hospitalized.

A number of them “have horrendous wounds, and face a very long road back to complete recovery,” U.S. Ambassador Raymond Mabus told reporters Wednesday.

The bodies of the five Americans were put on a flight that left for the United States on Thursday, embassy press officer Samir Kutab told The Associated Press.

A private memorial service for the Americans is to be held Friday at the U.S. Embassy.

The investigation continued Thursday, with 19 FBI agents assisting Saudi security men. The Saudi Arabian government has posted an $800,000 reward for information leading to the terrorists.
