Legislator Draws Deluge Of Criticism

Compiled From Wire Services

A feminist group Friday leveled blistering criticism at a male member of Parliament who blamed the country’s drought on women no longer covering their heads.

Legislator Msweli Mdluli told Parliament that the lack of rain could be blamed on women who angered the country’s ancestors because they no longer dress according to custom.

Dod Aphane, spokeswoman for the feminist Women and the Law Society, said that Mdluli’s remarks insulted women, God and the nation’s intelligence.
