Esther Deeder Kellogg

Service for Esther Deeder, 89, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church of Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service of Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Deeder, a lifelong resident of Kellogg, died Thursday.

She married Floyd Deeder in 1925 and worked as a clerk for several Kellogg businesses.

She was a member of the Kellogg Ladies of Elks, N.A.B.A., and was chosen as the 1981-82 Kellogg Citizen of the Year.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include a son, Bud Deeder of Kellogg; one daughter, Floydean Caddy of Kellogg; two sisters, Bernadine Acton of Kellogg and Mary Walker of Oregon; and four grandchildren.

Don Haney Rathdrum

Service for Don Haney, 63, will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 111 Locust, Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at the Pinegrove Cemetery in Rathdrum. English Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Haney, who was born in Franklin, Idaho, died Wednesday.

He married Lynn Hann in 1950 and moved to Rathdrum in 1955. He had worked for Central Pre-Mix before retiring two years ago.

Survivors include his wife, at home; two sons, David and Larry Haney, both of Rathdrum; two daughters, Sherrie Akers of Post Falls and Penny Haney of Hayden Lake, Idaho; his parents, Oscar and Edna Haney of Pendleton, Ore.; four brothers, Ron, Gerald and Wayne Haney, all of Oregon, and Melvin Haney of Osburn, Idaho; and one sister, Doris Olsen of Pendleton.

James Beyer Sandpoint

Service for James A. “Jim” Beyer, 53, will be today at 1 p.m. at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Beyer, a longtime Sandpoint resident, died Wednesday.

He grew up and attended schools in Wisconsin and Michigan, graduating from Sandusky High School in Sandusky, Mich.

He moved to Sandpoint with his family and they started the Pend Oreille Cheese Co., where he was employed for over 20 years.

Mr. Beyer enjoyed stock car racing and working with wood. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Sandpoint, and enjoyed spending time with his friends.

Survivors include his three children, Alfred and Michael Beyer, and Sherri Tacket, all of Michigan; his father, William Beyer of Sandpoint; three brothers, Bill Beyer of Coeur d’Alene, and Richard and Bernie Beyer, both of Sandpoint; three sisters, Deanna Baber of Heron, Mt., and Corrine Bond and Patsy Sletager, both of Sandpoint; and two grandchildren.

Loren Nitkey Cataldo, Idaho

At his request, no service will be held for Loren W. Nitkey, 89.

Mr. Nitkey, who was born in Idaho, died Sunday in Kellogg.

He was a lifelong Idaho resident and had worked at a Rose Lake area sawmill for many years before retiring.

Mr. Nitkey loved fishing.

Survivors include two sisters, Coralie Wylie of Spokane and Marge Graham of Missouri; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jeanne Welch Tekoa, Wash.

Service for Jeanne G. Welch, 69, will be at 1 p.m. today at Tekoa Retirement Apartments. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa is in charge of arrangements. Cremation will follow the service.

Mrs. Welch, who died Monday at home, was born in South Dakota.

She and her husband, Lucky Welch, were married in 1983 in Samuels, Idaho, and they settled in Spokane. In 1986 they moved to the Tekoa Retirement Apartments.

She had worked as manager of the Colbert Water District from 1974 until 1985.

She was a member of the Deer Park Eagles Auxiliary.

Mrs. Welch is survived by her husband; two sons, Devis Jubinville of Lewiston and Darrell Jubinville of Irving, Texas; one daughter, Roxanne McKinstry of Phoenix; one stepdaughter, Penny Sagendorf of Spokane; her mother, Rosie Stutzke of Portland; six brothers, Calvin Stutzke of Mead, Marvin Stutzke of Hope, Idaho, Ray Stutzke of Sandpoint, Martin Stutzke of Alaska, Alden Stutzke of Hoodsport, Wash., and Ralph Stutzke of Orting, Wash.; six sisters, Pearl Foster of Salem, Ore., Shirlene Martin of Orting, Leann Hattely, Joann Stevens and Janet Caddy, all of Vancouver, Wash., and Winnifred Tucker of Reno, Nev.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ellene Fancher Redmond, Wash.

Funeral Mass for Ellene B. Fancher, 82, will be at 8 a.m. today at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

Born in Addington, Okla., Mrs. Fancher died Tuesday in Redmond, where she had lived since 1993.

She had lived in Spokane for 36 years and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Fancher is survived by her husband, John Fancher of Redmond; one son, Larry Fancher of Seattle; three daughters, Pauline Pederson of Spokane, Darlene Martin of Redmond and Mary Murray of Lakewood, Wash.; one brother, James Isaacs, and one sister, Lydia Fletcher, both of Miles City, Mont.; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Richard Wise Spokane

Memorial service for Richard C. “Dick” Wise, 75, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Northwood Presbyterian Church. Private burial will precede at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wise, who died Wednesday, was born in Spokane.

He graduated from the University of Washington in the Naval ROTC program and served on a destroyer in the South Pacific during World War II.

Following his discharge, he worked as a meteorologist for 30 years in Boise, Seattle, Dallas and Spokane, where he had lived for the past 39 years. He retired in 1976.

He was a member and elder of Northwood Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Eileen Wise; one son, Douglas Wise of Seattle; four daughters, Kathleen Craig of Seattle, Sally Almond of Woodinville, Wash., Jennifer Wise of Granada Hills, Calif, and Nancy Davis of Spokane; one sister, Virginia Ormbrek of Seattle; and seven grandchildren.

Lester ‘Butch’ Schlecht Spokane

Service for Lester G. “Butch” Schlecht, 81, is set for 3 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Schlecht, who died Wednesday, was born in Nova Scotia. He had lived in Spokane since 1942.

He worked for Kaiser Aluminum in Mead for 31 years and retired in 1978.

He was a member of the Steel Workers Union, the Rock Rollers Club and the Deer Lake Property Owners Association.

Mr. Schlecht is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gretchen Schlecht; and one grandson.

Catherine Evans Spokane

Memorial service for Catherine M. Evans, 81, will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Sinto Senior Citizens Center, where she was a member. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Evans, a longtime Spokane resident, died Sunday.

She was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She worked in the special diet kitchen at Deaconess Hospital for many years as a dietician. For the past 23 years she cared for an elderly lady in her home.

She is survived by one granddaughter, Stephanie Sargent of Bemidji, Minn., one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter.

Margaret Becher Spokane

No service will be held for Violette M. “Margaret” Becher, at her request.

Born in Pulcifer, Wis., Miss Becher died Tuesday. She was 84.

She had lived in Spokane since 1942, and worked as a private housekeeper.

She is survived by two sisters, Kathryn Saucerman of Newport Beach, Calif., and Margaret Fitzgerald of Wausau, Wis.

Irene Gleason Spokane

Service for Irene L. Gleason, 77, was held Friday at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash.

Mrs. Gleason, a longtime Priest River, Idaho, resident, died Wednesday.

She was born in Merrill, Wis.

In 1939, she married Frederick “Fritz” Gleason and they lived in Montana before moving to Priest River in 1944.

In the late 1950s, they bought the Green Owl Tavern, which they ran until 1974.

Mrs. Gleason had worked for the state liquor store in Priest River, The Showboat in Coolin, Idaho, and Trader Bills in Priest River.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, James and Roger Gleason, both of Anchorage, Alaska; and five grandchildren.

John Harris Spokane

Visitation for John C. Harris, 80, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Graveside service is planned for 1 p.m. Monday at Davenport (Wash.) Cemetery.

Mr. Harris died Monday.

He was born in Washington and had lived in Spokane since 1947.

He worked for Kaiser Aluminum as a metal turner and most recently in custodial service.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and held memberships with the Moose Lodge and the Southern Baptist Church.

Mr. Harris is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lois Harris; one daughter, Candace Collins of Parma, Idaho; one son, John Harris of Las Vegas, Nev; two sisters; one brother; three grandsons and one great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

John Stackhouse Spokane

Visitation for John E. Stackhouse, 76, is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Cremation will follow.

Mr. Stackhouse, who was born in St. Joseph, Mo., died Thursday.

He had lived in Spokane for more then 55 years.

He retired from General Motors’ Chevrolet division as a factory representative. He had worked in Seattle and then in Spokane.

He was a member of the North Hill Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies, the El Katif Shrine, the North Spokane Shrine Club, Hi-Ball Railroad Unit Spokane Chapter No. 163, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Eastern Washington Lodge of Research, Sadir Khan Grotto, the Inland Empire Past Masters Association and the Eagles Lodge, No. 2.

Mr. Stackhouse is survived by one son, Gary Stackhouse of Seattle.
