Visions Of The Inland Northwest Tower Vision Clock Tower Is A Favorite Gathering Spot

The clock tower in Riverfront Park provides a timeless, symbolic vision of beauty and strength for our community; a connecting spirit of past and present.

The tower, erected in 1902, was once housed within the Great Northern Railway Station. This train station held a mysterious, romantic appeal for me as a young girl. It must have been the curiousity of people traveling to and from distant places that captured my interest. The clock tower rose high above the station, the base housed within the building itself. The illuminated face of the clock shown out across the night as it still does as if to beckon travelers to the heart of the city.

Today, park visitors still gather near the clock tower. Every child and adult seems to marvel at its strength and beauty. It’s almost as if the tower calls to the passerby to slow down and share a symbolic sense of belonging for at least a moment in time. Emily Belisle of Spokane
