‘95 Gift Guide Gardeners Love A Decorative Touch

Phyllis Stephens/Gardening Columnist

These are a few of my favorite (gardening) things:

Gazing globe: View your garden from a totally different perspective. Experience the garden’s depth, closeness and shapes through a large mirror-type ball nestled in the garden. These ancient globes are making a comeback in several sizes and colors. They run $50 to $200.

Pot holders: Decorative iron sculptures have been fashioned to hold one to three 6-inch pots. Some sculptures resemble branches, complete with cast-metal leaves.

You can quickly dress up a barren wall or fence simply by attached them to the wall or fence and dropping pots filled with flowers into the extended round holders. The price range is $30 to $75.

Tool caddies: Now, where did I lay those clippers? No more. Tool caddies are like a carpenter’s tool belt that can be strapped around a gardener’s waist. For added fun, fill the pockets with pad and pencil, colorful gloves and a trowel. Prices are $15 to $60.

Grow lamp: Keep those indoor posies blooming with a little help from artificial light. This decorative little lamp sports one blue floodlight. It can hang from the wall or ceiling, or be placed on a table. No more unsightly fluorescent tubes - just beautiful flowers. The price is about $30.

Kid stuff: It’s never too early to get the little ones interested in gardening. Buy your young future farmer a flower press and instruction book, brightly colored garden tools in a sturdy red plastic wheelbarrow, or flower pots stuffed with little gloves and seeds - pumpkin, sunflower and marigold.
