Seahawks Continue To Beat Nfl’s Meek

Associated Press

On any given Sunday, one mediocre team can beat any other mediocre team. That’s why, even though they’ve won three in a row, the Seattle Seahawks aren’t getting overly excited.

“We’re just thinking to the next game,” tackle Ray Roberts said after Sunday’s 27-20 victory over the Washington Redskins. “It’s not like we just went out and beat the Cowboys or the world champions or something like that.”

Chris Warren, still the most reliable weapon the Seahawks have, gained 61 of his 136 yards in the final period, including a punishing 5-yard run for the team’s final touchdown.

The Redskins (3-8) lost their third straight, and coach Norv Turner renewed the quarterback controversy by bringing in Heath Shuler in the fourth quarter in relief of Gus Frerotte. Turner said he will decide Monday who will start next week against Philadelphia.

“No, I don’t have any idea who it will be,” Turner said.

Seattle (5-6) has beaten the Giants, Jaguars and Redskins - one expansion team and two that may as well be - in succession, but it would be more realistic to say the Seahawks have stopped beating themselves.

After committing 22 turnovers in their first eight games, Seattle gave the ball up only once each time against the Giants and Jaguars. The Seahawks came into Sunday’s game with the NFL’s worst turnover ratio, but came out plus-3 against the Redskins.

“It wasn’t real pretty, but we’ll take the win,” coach Dennis Erickson said. The Redskins got only three points off of Seattle’s turnovers while the Seahawks got a touchdown and two field goals.
