Triplett Ties For Second

At Pebble Beach, Calif., former PGA Tour player Ronnie Black shot a 1-under-par 71 for a two-stroke victory over four players in the $250,000 Pebble Beach Invitational.

Former Pullman resident Kirk Triplett finished in a four-way tie for second (72-69-68-70-279) and won $13,500.

At Thousand Oaks, Calif., Steve Elkington and Mark Calcavecchia combined for a 13-under-par 59 in a scramble format to win the $1.1 million Shark Shootout by one shot over Lee Janzen and Chip Beck, who had a final-round 57. Each won $150,000.

At Paradise Island, Bahamas, Jim McGovern shot a 4-under-par 68 to win the inaugural Paradise Island Invitational, beating Guy Boros by three strokes.

McGovern rallied from two strokes down and had rounds of 71-67-68 for a 206 total, earning a first prize of $60,000.
