From Staff And Wire Reports

Two former Spokane high school standouts earned All-America status at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Monday.

Matt Davis of Mead, a University of Oregon sophomore, finished 15th to lead the Ducks to a seventh-place finish. Davis ran 10,000 meters in 31 minutes, 8 seconds. Oregon ran with the minimum five runners.

Jessica Fry of Rogers, an Alabama sophomore, was 24th in the women’s race in which two other former Spokane prep standouts helped the Montana State women to 15th. Rachel Jaten (University) was 98th and Emily Thompson (Mead) 102nd.

Arkansas returned to the top of the men’s field as Godfrey Siamusiye won the race and four teammates followed him in the top 50 as the Razorbacks earned their fifth NCAA men’s title in six years and their eighth since 1984.

Providence ended Villanova’s run of women’s championships at six. Villanova’s six-year string of individual champions also was broken as Wisconsin’s Kathy Butler won.

Defending champion Jennifer Rhines of Villanova was third, behind Arizona freshman Amy Skieresz. Villanova also was third in the team race.
