Frederick Guindon Post Falls

Service for Frederick H. Guindon, 61, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Post Falls. English Funeral Chapel of Post Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Guindon, who was born in South Dakota, died Saturday.

He had retired from the Air Force in 1976 after 24 years of service.

After retirement from the military, he worked for the Postal Service in Post Falls for 18 years.

He was recently a course marshal at the Highlands Golf Course in Post Falls.

Mr. Guindon enjoyed charity work and was a member of the Post Falls Lions Club for many years.

He married Betty Cox in 1956. She died in 1991.

Survivors include a son, Mark of Spokane; his mother, Helen Harder of Post Falls; three brothers, Bob, Bill and Jim, all of Post Falls; a sister, Mary Trautman of Spokane; a stepbrother, Donald Oxenrider of Rathdrum, Idaho; a stepsister, Lori of Oregon; friend and companion, June Duncan; four grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Martha ‘Marty’ Davis Newport, Wash.

Memorial service for Martha A. “Marty” Davis, 56, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport. Inurnment will be at the Newport Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis died Thursday of cancer.

She was born in Farmington, N.M.

Mrs. Davis graduated from high school in Coeur d’Alene and had lived in Newport for 35 years.

She had worked for the Newport School District, Key Tronic, A.I.D, and Home Health Care.

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Gene Davis; three sons, Bill and Tim Davis of Newport, and Dan Davis of Priest Lake, Idaho; two daughters, Nancy Nelson of Priest River, Idaho, and Peggy Banks of Spirit Lake, Idaho; three brothers, Leroy Hutchison of Fairbanks, Alaska, Art Hutchison of Hayden, Idaho, and George Hutchison of Sequim, Wash.; three sisters, Betty and Rosie, both of California, and Pearl of Post Falls; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Engman ‘Jake’ Jacobsen Spokane

Service for Engman P. “Jake” Jacobsen, 95, is set for noon today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Jacobsen died Thursday.

He was born in Spokane and graduated from North Central High School.

He had lived in Spokane for 80 years.

While in high school, Mr. Jacobsen began working for the Postal Service as a part-time clerk. When Franklin D. Roosevelt was president, he issued the first Social Security numbers in the Spokane area.

He became superintendent of several post offices and retired as general superintendent of mails.

He was a member of the National Federation of Post Office Clerks, the National Association of Postal Supervisors, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

His wife of 56 years, Susie Jacobsen, died in 1981.

He is survived by one son, Bill Jacobsen of Fairfax, Va.; one daughter, Susan Hoxter of Seattle; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church or Cancer Patient Care.

Ruby Fieser Spokane

Memorial service for Ruby (Messamore) Fieser, 102, was Sunday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Born in Wilbur, Wash., Mrs. Fieser died Friday.

She graduated from Tekoa (Wash.) High School in 1912 and began teaching in a nearby country school.

She had lived in the Spokane area since 1941.

Mrs. Fieser volunteered as a Red Cross gray lady at Baxter General Hospital in Spokane during World War II. After the war, she worked at The Crescent department store for 16 years.

Her husband, George Fieser, preceded her in death.

She is survived by one sister, Lucille Burnham, of Veradale.

Ralph Morrow Priest River, Idaho

Memorial service for Ralph E. Morrow, 78, was Monday at Priest River Community Congregation Church.

Mr. Morrow, a lifetime Priest River resident, died Thursday.

He graduated from Priest River High School, and married Rose Wear in Sandpoint in 1941.

He served in the Army 798th Engineers Division before returning to Priest River to work as a diesel mechanic for Doolittle’s Mill and Albeni Machine. He retired from the Bonner County Road District.

Mr. Morrow was a member of the Priest River Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kaniksu Masonic Lodge 97 and the Newport Eagles Lodge.

His wife died in 1986.

Mr. Morrow is survived by one daughter, Marla Hacklander of Priest River; two brothers, Merlie and Edgar Morrow, both of Priest River; and two grandchildren.

Max Krakenberg Hayden, Idaho

Service for Max William Krakenberg, 74, will be today at 1 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Krakenberg, who was born in Seattle, died Friday.

He grew up in Coeur d’Alene and graduated from Highline High School in Burien, Wash. He later served with the Navy Seabees during World War II. After his military discharge, he began a career in steel fabrication in Seattle.

He married Nina Murfitt in 1953, and they lived in Seattle, where he was a superintendent at Flohr’s Steel Fabrication. He retired in 1980 and moved to Hayden in 1988.

Mr. Krakenberg enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and car restoration. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Des Moines, Wash., and the Scottish Rite Nile Temple in Seattle. He was also active in Scouting and DeMolay.

Survivors include his wife, at home; two sons, Max and Dennis, both of California; two daughters, Katherine McCollough and Nancy Flanary, both of Spokane; three brothers, John of Selah, Wash., Robert of Hood Canal, Wash., and David of Veradale; a sister, Jan Sylte of Athol, Idaho; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Spokane. Rickey Brown Spokane

Wake for Rickey A. Brown, 30, will be at 7 p.m. today at the Spokane Tribal Longhouse in Wellpinit, Wash. Funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the longhouse. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellpinit. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brown died Friday when he was struck by a train.

He was born in Spokane and graduated from Rogers High School.

He was a member of the Spokane Tribe of Indians.

An Army veteran, Following his discharge, he worked at the Northeast Community Center.

Mr. Brown is survived by his parents, Herbert and Sandra Brown of Spokane; his grandmother, Delores Burger of Wellpinit, Wash; his grandfather, Joe Andrew of Wellpinit; three sisters, Victoria Doering and Tammy Deerhiem, both of Spokane, and Karen Strauss of Olympia; and three brothers, William, Raymond and Darrell Brown, all of Spokane.

Sister Honora Collins Spokane

Vigil service for Sr. Honora Collins, S.P. (Sister Mary John), will be at 7 p.m. today at Mount St. Joseph. Funeral Mass is planned for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mount St. Joseph with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge.

Sister Collins, 83, a member of the Sisters of Providence, died Saturday.

She was born in Billings, Mont., and graduated from Holy Names Academy in Spokane. She graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1934.

She entered the Sisters of Providence as a postulant following graduation and made her first profession of vows in 1937 and her final vows in 1940.

Sister Collins was assigned to numerous health-care assignments, including Sacred Heart Hospital, now Sacred Heart Medical Center; Providence Hospital in Wallace; St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, where she was floor supervisor and surgery supervisor; and Holy Family Hospital in St. Ignatius, Mont., where she was surgery and maternity supervisor and anesthetist. She also served at Columbus Hospital in Great Falls, Mont.; St. Ignatius Hospital, now Whitman Community Hospital, in Colfax, Wash., where she was director of the school of nursing from 1968 to 1971 and assistant administrator from 1971 to 1981; and St. Mary Hospital, now St. Mary Medical Center, in Walla Walla, where she was project director from 1981 to 1984.

Sister Collins retired to Mount St. Joseph in 1984 and was receptionist, driver for elderly sisters, and assistant in the province archives until 1992.

She was a member of the American Society for Hospital Nursing Service Administrators of the American Hospital Association.

Survivors include one niece, Mary Smith of Las Vegas, Nev.; and three nephews, Terrance Collins of Chesterfield, Mo., Sean Collins of Alexandria, Va., and Robert Mannery of Seattle.

Mary Lee Rotchford Kendall Spokane

Funeral Mass for Mary Lee Rotchford Kendall, 66, will be at 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Kendall, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Friday.

She graduated from Holy Names Academy and the Dominican College of San Rafael, Calif. She received a master’s degree in social services from Fort Wright College and had worked as a substance-abuse counselor.

Mrs. Kendall was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Junior League of Spokane, the Spokane Country Club and The Spokane Club.

She is survived by two sons, Ed Gayda of Anacortes, Wash., and Robert Rotchford Gayda of Salt Lake City; two daughters, Patricia Haworth and Carlahn Gayda, both of Spokane; two brothers, Robert Rotchford Jr. of Spokane and James Rotchford of Arlington, Va.; and 12 grandchildren.

Marie Hanson Spokane

Service for Marie F. Hanson, 82, will be today at the Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hanson, who was born in Fort Smith, Ark., died Friday.

She moved to Spokane from El Paso, Texas, in 1934. She had worked for Kaiser Aluminium at Trentwood and in California. She retired in 1978.

Her husband, Donald Hanson, died in 1988.

She is survived by one brother, William Carbaugh of Spokane.

Bonnie Wood Wilbur, Wash.

Service for Bonnie A. Wood, 65, will be at 2 p.m. today the Wilbur Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at the Wilbur Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home of Wilbur is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Richland, Ore., Mrs. Wood died Friday.

She was a homemaker and moved to Wilbur in 1965. She had worked in retail and drove a special education bus from Wilbur to Grand Coulee for several years.

Mrs. Wood moved to Richland, Ore., to take care of her parents before returning to Wilbur 10 years ago.

She most recently was manager of the Hillcrest Village Apartments in Wilbur.

She was a member of Wilbur Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Wood is survived by three daughters, Terri Mockel of Billings, Mont., Janice Popple of Spokane and Gayleen Aubertin of Wilbur; one sister, Joan Croxen; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Earl ‘Riley’ Starr Spokane

Visitation for Earl W. “Riley” Starr, 77, is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m Wednesday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Service will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 2 at the funeral home, with entombment at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. Starr, who died Friday at home, was born in Rice, Wash.

He was a 40-year Spokane resident and worked as a painter for the Bonneville Power Administration.

He served in the Army.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Norma Starr; two stepsons, Keith Ellingson of Spokane and Dannie Ellingson of Seattle; two half-brothers, one half-sister, and three grandsons.

Marshall Bailey Spokane

Memorial service for Marshall C. Bailey, 85, was Monday at Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene.

Born in Coeur d’Alene, Mr. Bailey died Friday.

He had lived in Spokane for 56 years.

He was past owner of Bailey’s Barber Shop in Coeur d’Alene, and of Bailey’s Furniture and Exchange in Spokane.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Belle Bailey; one daughter, Beverly Krusee of Portland; three sons, Robert and Richard Bailey, both of Portland, and Donald Bailey of Wenatchee; one stepdaughter, Arlene Barnes of Otis Orchards; one stepson, Larry McGeath of Edmonds, Wash.; three sisters, Margaret Weese of Coeur d’Alene, Ruth Hanson of Lynnwood, Wash., and Rachel Hanson of Mesa, Ariz.; one brother, Dave Bailey of Garden Grove, Calif.; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and six stepgrandchildren.
