Walesa Won’t Work With Victor

Six years after his Solidarity movement toppled the Communist dictatorship, President Lech Walesa conceded defeat Monday and vowed not to work with the former Communist who unseated him in an election that bared deep divisions in Poland.

Aleksander Kwasniewski won 52 percent of the runoff vote on Sunday, or nearly 650,000 more votes than Walesa, according to official results released Monday evening.

Kwasniewski, 41, appealed to Walesa for reconciliation. But the president said, “There is nothing we can talk about.”
