Turkish Playwright Gets Prison Sentence
A military high court confirmed a one-year prison sentence Tuesday for a leading Turkish playwright who opposed the draft.
Bilgesu Erenus suggested in 1992 that parents should not send their sons to the required military service.
It was not immediately clear when Erenus would start serving her sentence.
Laws in Turkey allow civilians to face court-martial when the accusations are related directly to the military.
Turkey has come under severe criticism in the West for laws restricting freedom of speech.
