Josh Fitzpatrick Davenport Year: Junior Sport: Football Position: Running Back

When Josh FitzPatrick first worked out with his new teammates, an assistant said to Davenport head coach Skip Pauls, “Too bad that kid’s a senior.”

FitzPatrick had just moved from Medical Lake, so not everyone knew his standing in school. Although he looked like a senior, FitzPatrick was, in actuality, a freshman.

Now he’s a junior, and leaving everyone wondering how good he can be as a senior. FitzPatrick rushed for 191 yards last weekend and scored three touchdowns in Davenport’s 33-12 B-11 quarterfinal win over Tekoa-Oakesdale.

FitzPatrick has rushed for 1,400 yards this season. He was a Northeast B-11 all-league selection at running back, linebacker and kick returner.

“He’s had an excellent season,” Pauls said. “He works very hard and gives credit to the people he has to give credit to.”

“If I didn’t have my blockers, I don’t think we would (have beaten T-O),” FitzPatrick said.

Davenport plays Oroville on Saturday in its first semifinal appearance in 20 years.”I don’t really like to sit around the house,” FitzPatrick said of a two-month layoff that cut into the basketball season.
