Seven Killed In Truck-Trailer Accident In Northern California

Associated Press

The driver of a big rig lost control on a rain-slicked highway Wednesday and hit a logging truck and a car in a fiery head-on crash that killed seven people.

The accident just south of Dunsmuir shut down 60 miles of Interstate 5 for several hours.

The crash occurred when the driver of a southbound tractor-trailer lost control, hitting a northbound logging truck and the car head-on, the California Highway Patrol said. Emergency workers said the logging truck was passing the car at the time, and rain and fog had made the highway slippery and reduced visibility.

Dunsmuir is 300 miles northeast of San Francisco.
