Rockford Gets In Holiday Spirit With Rides, Santa

The Spokane Valley/Freeman YMCA and the Rockford Lions Club will sponsor a sleigh ride and visit with Santa from 6-9 p.m. on Dec. 16.

The event will be held at Rockford Park, which is in downtown Rockford.

To get there from the Valley, take state Highway 27 south to the Rockford turnoff and head into town. Then take a right at the blinking traffic light. The park is on the right.

The cost of admission is a food donation for the Spokane Valley Food Bank or a toy for Toys for Tots.

Pictures with Santa will be available.

Fire District 13 meeting

Commissioners of Fire District No. 13 have scheduled a public meeting next week to discuss the district’s 1996 budget.

The meeting will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Station No. 1, 24411 E. Newman Lake Road.

District 13 encompasses much of the Newman Lake area.

Eyeglasses wanted

The Spokane Valley Lions Club is collecting used eyeglasses for distribution to people living in Third World countries.

Drop boxes have been set up at the three Valley SCOPE stations.

The glasses will be test

ed, repaired and shipped to poor people and others who have been victims of disasters in the Third World.

Sewer meeting Tuesday

The Spokane County Public Works Department will hold a meeting on the county’s future sewer plans Tuesday at Centennial Middle School, 915 N. Ella.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m.

County officials will explain several proposals they are considering and will answer questions regarding financing options, scheduling and other matters.
