From Staff And Wire Reports

A 6-year-old girl was in critical condition Friday after a man rear-ended the car she was riding in late Thursday in the Spokane Valley.

The driver of the other car, Richard T. Hardin, 44, of Spokane, was arrested on a vehicular assault charge after treatment at Deaconess Medical Center, the Washington State Patrol said.

Briana G. Boss of Spokane suffered a fractured skull and remained at Deaconess on Friday, the state patrol said.

The driver of the car she rode in, Julie L. Zinkgraf, 29, was released after treatment at Valley Hospital and Medical Center.

Another passenger in her car, Jimmy L. Boss, 30, of Spokane, also was released after treatment at Valley Hospital.

Zinkgraf was driving a 1985 Dodge car north on Sullivan at Sprague about 10:50 p.m. Hardin was driving a 1978 Buick when he struck Zinkgraf’s car from behind, the State Patrol said.

Hardin was not wearing a seat belt, but Zinkgraf and her passengers were wearing safety restraints.
