Whits Bomb Away In Win Against Okanogan

The Whitworth Pirates shot a torrid 63 percent from 3-point range to wipe out Okanogan 98-60 at the Whitworth Fieldhouse on Friday night.

“It was about time for us to get on the mark from the field,” Whitworth coach Warren Friedrichs remarked. “Games like this are good for getting that confidence going.”

In moving its record to 2-1, the Pirates shot 58 percent from the field.

Whitworth ran out to a 46-24 halftime lead and was never threatened. Okanogan fell to 8-3 on the year.

Whitworth’s Gabe Jones had his best game of the year and finished with 16 points. Teammate Nate Dunham led all scorers with 19.

Everyone except Jeff Mix played for Whitworth. Mix sat out the game with a sore back.

Whitworth’s next contest is Tuesday night as the Pirates host Lewis Clark-State at 7 p.m.
