Playfair

The final days of the Spokane horse racing season unveiled another bargain stakeswinner Saturday at Playfair Race Course, where On Board surged up the rail to win the third running of the KGA Lilac Lady Handicap.

Today, with a mandatory distribution scheduled, the meet’s final twin trifecta will have a carryover of $60,489 - promising a $100,000 jackpot - and Frost Gothe Peach will seek his seventh victory of the fall in the 48th running of the 2-mile Inland Empire Marathon. Post time will be at 1:30 p.m. The season ends Monday.

Junior hockey

At Sicamous, British Columbia, the Spokane Braves fell to Sicamous 7-4 in a Kootenay International Junior Hockey League game. Derek Ames, Darin Talotti, Mike Brunette and Ben Holt each scored once for the Braves (2-12-4).

Fishing

The 24.13-pound rainbow trout caught by Lana Cochran of Otis Orchards on Friday remained the top catch at the Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club Thanksgiving Challenge Derby.

Carl Sherwood of Spokane matched Cochran’s catch on Saturday, but remained in second because his fish was reeled in a day later.

Daniel Warren of Oldtown remained in the lead in the youth category with his 19.5-pound rainbow. In the mackinaw division, Bob Humiston of Bayview retained his lead with his 21-pounder.

The derby ends today.
