Former President Carlos Salinas de Gortari said Sunday he did not know about his brother’s $84 million Swiss bank account while he was president, and he urged his brother to disclose the source of the money.
“Now he will have to explain clearly the amount and origin of these funds attributed to him,” Salinas said in a statement faxed to The Associated Press. “And if he fails, he should be firmly punished by the proper authorities.”
Swiss authorities are investigating the bank account belonging to the former president’s elder brother, Raul Salinas.
