Education Expert To Speak To Parents

From Staff And Wire Reports

Parents, teachers and others interested in education have been invited to hear a national expert speak at a “Parent Summit” this weekend.

The free gathering will be at Hayden Meadows Elementary School.

“Society too often blames parents for all the ills of youth,” said Ginny Hughes of the Coeur d’Alene High School Parent Advisory Council.

“Parent Summit challenges this view and offers an opportunity for parents and other significant adults in kids’ lives to help create the values and mores consistent with a respectful and responsible society.”

Participants will learn such things a how to improve a child’s reading ability and how to increase community involvement in schools.

Friday’s program will begin at 6 p.m., and include a talk on “Kids of the ‘90s: Why Adults are Vital to Success,” by Michelle Karns of National Training Associates.

Karns also will be a leader in Saturday’s program, which will last from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The summit is sponsored by the Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls school districts, the Idaho Head Start Transition Project and North Idaho Head Start. Registration forms are available through those offices.
