Borrowed Blazer Never Returned

Jonathan Martin Staff Writer

A Colbert man was arrested on felony charges after he borrowed another man’s Chevrolet Blazer at a party and never returned it.

The owner of the 1984 Blazer was at a friend’s house on Mt. Spokane Park Drive on Nov. 19 when he met Ronnie S. Bryant, who knew the owner of the house.

After several hours at the house, Bryant, 21, asked to borrow the man’s Blazer. Bryant promised to return the truck the next day and gave the man keys to a 1992 Yamaha motorcycle as collateral.

Bryant did not return the Blazer and the man reported the truck stolen. Police checked the license plate on the motorcycle and found it had been stolen in Spokane on Sept. 15.

Two days later, a sheriff’s deputy saw the Blazer driving in the Spokane Valley. The deputy temporarily lost sight of the truck, but found it parked at 9300 E. Valleyway.

A witness said the driver had run away. The deputy picked up Bryant a block away.

He has been held in Spokane County Jail on a $5,000 bond since his arrest.
