Maheras Turn Improves Stock With Win

Maheras Turn put her name in contention for the season’s filly and mare championship Saturday with a front-running, half-length victory in the $4,300 Dishman Handicap at Playfair Race Course.

Ridden by Marty Wentz, Maheras Turn outlasted repeated bids from mud-loving Pretty Peggy Slew to complete 6 furlongs in 1:13 1/5. Last year’s filly and mare champion, Montani, rallied through the slop to finish third. Maheras Turn paid $6.60 to win.

Less than 24 hours after paying out a record $129,981.80 twin trifecta, the track registered another whopping payoff Saturday.

Salsis, a 7-1 chance, touched off a $1,563.10 payoff for $1 by winning the 10th race.
