Union Plans Slowdown At Boeing

Machinists Union leaders at Boeing plants in Washington, Oregon and Kansas are calling for a work slowdown today to protest what they call “totally unacceptable” contract proposals from the aerospace giant.

As intense negotiations enter their 12th day, District Lodge 751 spokeswoman Connie Kelliher said workers will be asked to “work to the rule” - meaning that nothing gets done unless every rule, regulation, guideline and authorization has been followed to the letter.

The plan, according to a flier that will be handed to members as they report for work today, urges them to give Boeing “The Big Zero.” Which is exactly, the union contends, what Boeing has offered during contract negotiations.

Boeing spokesman Russ Young said the company expects people to provide a day’s work for a day’s pay.

“We have a lot of faith in the intelligence and work ethic of the people that work for Boeing,” Young said.
