Huntsman Bestows $100 Million Gift

Compiled From Wire Services

An industrialist who lost his parents to cancer donated $100 million towards a cancer institute Monday, in the largest single financial contribution ever to medical research.

Jon M. Huntsman Sr., 58, who was diagnosed with cancer three years ago, said he made a commitment after his mother’s death 30 years ago to fight cancer, but never thought he would be in a financial position to make a difference.

Today, the privately held Huntsman companies, which specialize in chemical and plastics products, are located in 23 countries. Anticipated sales revenues for 1995 are $4.3 billion.

The money will go to researchers at the University of Utah’s Huntsman Cancer Institute.
