Compiled From Wire Services

Rep. G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery, D-Miss., who has zealously protected veterans programs during 15 terms in the House, announced Monday he will retire from Congress next year.

“It’s time for me to move on,” said the 75-year-old author of the “Montgomery G.I. Bill,” which provides education funds for millions of military personnel, shortly before he announced his decision.
