11-Month-Old Girl Dies After Being Fed Crack Cocaine

An 11-month-old girl who police said was fed crack cocaine by her 2-year-old brother died of a heart attack Tuesday on the way to a hospital. Her mother was arrested.

The mother, whose name was not immediately released, called for an ambulance Tuesday afternoon when her daughter couldn’t stop vomiting, said police Sgt. Desi Garcia.

At first, Garcia said, the woman told paramedics her baby had probably eaten rat poison or pesticides. After police found a large amount of cocaine in the house he said she admitted her 2-year-old son had fed the drug to the baby.

The mother and her boyfriend were taken into custody and will face charges of child abuse resulting in death, tampering with evidence, and with possessing and dealing crack cocaine.
