Withey Plans Council Write-In

Failed candidate Ken Withey isn’t giving up his bid for the Spokane City Council.

Withey finished last in a three-way primary race for Position 3 against Jeff Colliton and incumbent Bev Numbers.

He recently announced plans for a write-in campaign for Position 1 - the spot currently held by Councilman Joel Crosby, who is leaving the council in December.

Roberta Greene and Jim Kolva won the September primary race for Crosby’s seat and will face each other in the November general election.

“I had more than 100 people call and asked that I would” run, Withey said. “They want someone with a neighborhood connection. It’s an option people have now that they didn’t have before.”

In a letter to the Spokane County Elections Office, Withey said, “I fully understand that a write-in campaign is much harder, yet I am familiar with the ‘impossible,’ having written, organized and sponsored the recent science center referendum that allowed for a public vote.”

Withey was part of a successful campaign to keep the Seattle-based Pacific Science Center out of Riverfront Park’s Pavilion.

Withey, 35, is an energy management specialist for the Central Valley School District.
