Badgers Pull Shocker In Iml Volleyball

For the first time in 13 years, an Intermountain League volleyball match went against St. Maries.

Eanna Aaron had 15 kills and two blocks, and a crucial dig on match point, as host Bonners Ferry (4-5, 6-7) surprised St. Maries 8-15, 15-12, 17-15 on Thursday.

The Lumberjacks (7-1, 14-3) served for match point three times but couldn’t deliver.

“I just don’t think we gave up,” said Badgers coach Janis Tucker.

“Bonners Ferry had great defense and stayed aggressive at the net,” said SM coach Mitch Santos.

St. Maries trailed the final game 8-0, tied it at 8, then slipped back 13-10.

Sarah Smith had nine kills and Sarah Knott six for the Badgers. Amanda Tams 16 kills and 10 blocks, and Bridgette O’Dwyer 10 kills and nine blocks for St. Maries.

Lindsay Herbert’s five blocks and three kills led visiting Lake City (9-7) to a 15-13, 15-2 non-league win at Colville, Wash.

Sarah Perry added 15 assists, Laura Tolzmann 12 digs and Melanie Adams five aces for the Timberwolves.

At Post Falls, Melissa Hei was 15 of 15 serving and had three aces to lead visiting Kellogg (6-7) to a 15-12, 15-8 non-league win over Falls Christian (11-11).

Jenny Goodson added seven kills and Cassidy Beamis 15 assists for the Wildcats, who served 91 percent. Sarah Peterson had six kills, four aces and two blocks for the Eagles.

At Wallace, Dana Streeter served 13 of 13 and had nine kills and five digs as the host Miners (17-5) beat Priest River 15-5, 15-8, 15-12 in a non-league match.

Joy Sperry added 26 kills and seven blocks for Wallace, and Jonnie Hill served 12 of the 15 points in the final game. The Spartans are 15-6.

Lewiston defeated host Post Falls 15-4, 15-9 to tie idle Coeur d’Alene for second place in the Inland Empire League.

The Bengals improved to 3-2, 11-6, two games behind first-place Sandpoint.

Brittany Murphy had nine digs and eight assists for the Trojans (0-6, 5-14).

Sasha Storaasli had eight aces and five kills - and five consecutive serving points late in the first game - as visiting Clark Fork (7-1, 12-4) clinched at least a tie for the North Star League title with a 16-14, 15-4 win over Kootenai (1-5, 5-14) at Harrison.

The Wampus Cats trailed the first game 14-13 before crucial serves by Erin Mandershine. Angie Ponack added five kills for Clark Fork, which could be tied in the standings by Falls Christian.

Sandpoint’s junior varsity used a 23-9 shots-on-goal advantage to defeat host Lakeland 4-0 in a non-league match at Rathdrum.
