Explosion Leaves 13 Hurt In Paris

Compiled From Wire Services

A gas canister full of nuts and bolts exploded in a trash can outside a Paris subway station Friday, injuring 13 people.

The blast showed that despite massive security measures - including sealing more than 20,000 garbage cans along main Parisian boulevards, checking the identity of hundreds of thousands of people, and deploying police and troops to guard tourist sites - the terror campaign is not over.

A letter carrier had spotted a suspicious bag in a garbage can and alerted police, who cordoned off the area a few blocks from the bustling Place d’Italie. The device exploded just before a bomb squad was to dismantle it.
