Lewiston Whips Lake City, 47-7

Jon Hay Correspondent

The Lewiston Bengals’ offense didn’t leave the field much at Lake City High on Friday. That proved to be trouble for the Timberwolves, whose offense couldn’t keep up as they lost 47-7 in an Inland Empire League game.

The first half was dominated by the Bengals, who scored every time they had the ball until 1:41 was left in the half.

Lewiston wide receiver Jim Farris ended up with four touchdowns, including a 60-yard hook-up with backup quarterback Bill Graffis with time running out in the first half. Farris also connected with starting quarterback Brad Rice on scores of 23, 42 and 52 yards.

Lake City got a lift from the kick returns of wide receiver Ben Scharenberg, who ran back three for more than 20 yards, including a secondquarter return to the Lewiston 34. A face mask penalty on the Bengals brought the ball to the 14.

The return would eventually lead to the Timberwolves’ only touchdown on a 3-yard run by Brian Ross.

The loss moved Lake City to 0-2 in league and 0-6 on the season. The Bengals went to 1-1 in league and 5-1 on the season.
