Stockton To Speak Oct. 17 At Bulldog Club Luncheon

From Staff Reports

Utah Jazz All-Star guard and Gonzaga University graduate John Stockton will be the featured speaker at the Oct. 17 monthly luncheon of the Bulldog Club at noon at the Crescent Court Ballroom, 707 W Main.

Stockton and his Jazz teammates will be in town for that night’s NBA exhibition game against the Seattle Sonics at 7:30 in the Spokane Arena.

Cost of the luncheon, which is open to the public, is $15. A pre-paid RSVP must be received by 5 p.m. Thursday at the Bulldog Club office in Martin Centre. Info: 328-4220, ext. 4204. No tickets will be sold at the door.

“We want to stress … the importance of an RSVP for this event,” Bulldog Club director John Preston said. “The caterer requires an accurate count of the number of lunches to be served and has set Thursday as the deadline.”

Tickets for the Jazz-Sonics game are still available through the Arena box office or by calling G&B Select-A-Seat, (800) 325-SEAT.

Basketball

They have the coaches, now they just need the players for a Shadle Park High School alumni boys basketball tournament Dec. 30 at the school.

Shadle assistant Tim Gaebe, and an event coordinator with head coach Darcy Weisner, said former Highlanders coaches Paul Henley, Dave Robertson, Jim Groves and Jim Meredith have committed to each coach a team in a round-robin event.

“We will compile four teams as evenly as possible,” Weisner and Gaebe said in a letter to former players.

Each team will play three games, then the group will get together for a social gathering at 5-Mile Heights Pizza. Cost to play is $20, which includes a T-shirt for the games then keep.

Interested former Highlanders should contact Weisner or Gaebe at the school, 353-4531, or Gaebe at home, 838-8274.
