Tremors Of Possible Eruption Ease Off
A surge of seismic activity off the shores of a hot springs resort south of Tokyo appears to be subsiding, weather officials said today.
More than 8,700 tremors, most of them too weak to be felt, have been recorded off the seaside resort of Ito since Sept. 29, prompting officials to step up monitoring efforts.
But Japan’s Central Meteorological Agency said today that the frequency of the tremors has subsided.
Experts had warned that an undersea volcanic eruption was possible.
