Fire Hampers Salt Lake Airport

Compiled From Wire Services

A small fire forced the evacuation Monday of about 1,000 people from the Salt Lake City International Airport and shut down its control tower.

Airport Authority Operations Superintendent Ron Malin did not know how many flights were delayed.

The concourse serving American Airlines, Northwest, America West, Vanguard and some Continental flights was evacuated for about 90 minutes, he said.

Many of those flights were redirected to other concourses.
