School Enrollment Up 1 Percent

Enrollment in Spokane School District increased 1 percent this fall, school officials said.

The district had 32,191 students enrolled as of Oct. 2, compared with 31,867 last October. This fall’s enrollment was 124 students above projections.

Across the district, enrollment is increasing in grades seven through 12, but falling in elementary schools.

Schools with the large increases are Shaw Middle School, up 9 percent; Madison Elementary, up 8.7 percent; Balboa Elementary, up 8.3 percent; Ferris High School, up 6.7 percent, and Garfield Elementary, up 6.6 percent.

Schools with declining enrollment are Lidgerwood Elementary, down 12 percent; Wilson Elementary, down 7.7 percent; Jefferson Elementary, down 6.9 percent; Holmes Elementary, down 5.6 percent and Franklin Elementary, down 5.4 percent. , DataTimes
