Dollar Reverses Course
The dollar ended higher against major currencies Tuesday after spending the day tracking stock prices through a sharp drop and rebound.
The Dow Jones industrial average plummeted 63 points just after the opening bell, but finished the day with a scant 5-point loss.
“The dollar sold out first thing in the day because it was concerned about the stock market,” said Wayne Grigull, director of foreign exchange sales at Merrill Lynch & Co.
Worries about corporate earnings helped pushed stocks lower Tuesday. Lower profits could also signal a weakening economy, which would mean a sluggish dollar.
