I. Gladys Shockley Coeur d’Alene

Graveside service for I. Gladys Shockley, 72, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel of Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shockley, who was born in Fort Benton, Mont., died Tuesday.

She moved to Hayden Lake, Idaho, as a child and attended grade school there. She graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1942.

She married Earnie Shockley in 1943 and became a homemaker.

Mrs. Shockley was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Grounds of Spokane; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Jackie Weeks Solien Spokane

Memorial service for Jackie Weeks Solien, 64, will be at 3 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. A reception will follow at Percy’s Restaurant.

A lifetime resident of the Spokane Valley, Mrs. Solien died Monday of breast cancer.

She graduated from West Valley High School and from Eastern Washington University in the early 1970s. She taught at Lakeland Village in Medical Lake and most recently at North Pines Junior High School.

She is survived by her husband, Art Rowley; three daughters, Stephanie Solien of Seattle, Cheri Solien of Anchorage, Alaska, and Dana Solien-Cada of Entiat, Wash.; two brothers, Dallas and Danny Weeks; one sister, Jill Rollis; and six grandchildren.

Warren Raines St. Maries

Memorial service for Warren “Possum” Raines, 80, will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Raines, who was born in Arkansas, died Monday at home.

He grew up in Arkansas and worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps as a young man.

He married Florine Wilson in 1938.

During World War II, he lived in Vancouver, Wash., where he worked for Kaiser Aluminum and an air-defense plant as a mechanic.

He moved to St. Maries in 1945 and worked in the woods for area logging companies and also worked in several local mills before retiring in 1980.

Mr. Raines divorced in 1962.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a son, Gary Raines of Tekoa, Wash.; two daughters, Pat Green of St. Maries and Bennie Lowry of Plummer, Idaho; two sisters, Alice Taylor and Lavina Anderson, both of Arkansas; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Laura Lefebvre Centralia, Wash.

Mass for Laura M. Lefebvre, 72, was Monday at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church.

Mrs. Lefebvre, who was born in Priest River, Idaho, died Oct. 3. She had lived in Centralia for 19 years.

She graduated from high school in Priest River and then graduated from beauty school in Spokane.

During World War II, she worked for the Boeing Co. She later owned and operated her own beauty shop in Priest River.

Mrs. Lefebvre worked at Centralia Middle School until this year.

She was a member of the Legion of Mary, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Chehalis (Wash.) Eagles and the American Legion. She was a charter member of the Longview (Wash.) Sons of Italy.

She helped found the Lewis County Adult Day Care Center, where she cooked and taught crafts. In 1983, she received the Lewis County Volunteer of the Year award.

Survivors include one daughter, Vickie O’Connell of Centralia; one son, Larry Lefebvre of Clatskanie, Ore.; her father, Teddy Naccarato of Priest River; two brothers, Kenneth and Robert Naccarato, both of Priest River; one sister, JoAnn Kruger of Chehalis, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.

Herbert Gerky Spokane

Graveside service for Herbert L. Gerky, 70, was Wednesday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Gerky, who was born in Priest River, Idaho, died Saturday.

A 41-year resident of Spokane, he was a refrigeration mechanic for Western Fruit Express before retiring in 1987. He had also worked for Boeing.

He was a World War II Navy veteran.

Mr. Gerky had been a member of the Eagles Lodge Aerie 2 and the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Audrey Gerky; two sons, Monty Gerky of Newman Lake and Dennis Gerky of Spokane; one daughter, Cheryl McGlocklin of Spokane; three sisters, Gertrude Branden and Lucille Gerky, both of Havre, Mont., and Dorothy Stephens of Everton, Mo.; one brother, George Gerky of Havre; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Charlotte ‘Nana’ Smith Pullman

Private family service for Charlotte Josephine “Nana” Smith, 77, will be at the Freeze Cemetery in Potlatch, Idaho. Kimball Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Smith, who was born in Potlatch, died Friday.

She was a graduate of Potlatch High School.

In 1968 she moved to Pullman and worked as a cook in the student union building at Washington State University. She retired in 1983.

Her husband, Marvin, died in 1968.

She is survived by three sons, Robert Smith of Colton, Wash., and Michael and Marvin Smith, both of Spokane; one sister, Alma Zimmerman of Princeton, Idaho; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Thelma Sitton Ritzville, Wash.

Service for Thelma M. Sitton, 95, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Washtucna Community Church. Burial will follow at Pioneer Cemetery. Danekas Funeral Home of Ritzville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sitton, who was born in Ralston, Wash., died Sunday.

She was a 1919 Washtucna High School graduate and graduated from Whitman College in 1923 with a degree in education.

Mrs. Sitton and her husband farmed in Washtucna for more than 30 years.

She was a member of the Washtucna Community Church and the Washtucna Progressive Club and was a charter member of Rimrock Grange 941.

Her husband, Virgil, died in 1980.

Survivors include two sons, Benjamin Sitton of Washtucna and Robert Sitton of Clarkston, Wash.; one sister, Margaret Leonard of Ritzville; one brother, Dean Leonard of Buckley, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Washtucna Community Church.

James Martinez Spokane

Funeral Mass for James V. Martinez, 65, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Peone Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home in in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Martinez, who was born and raised in Tucumcari, N.M., died Sunday. He had lived in Spokane for 10 years.

He had worked in construction as a welder.

He helped organize the Hispanic community of Spokane through the Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Blanca Martinez of Spokane; a son, James Martinez Jr. of Spokane; two daughters, Elizabeth Martinez and Cynthia Ortega Martinez, both of Spokane; four brothers, Gilbert, Edward and Joe Martinez, all of Spokane, and Henry Martinez of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; three sisters, Della Williams of Spokane, Susie Romero of Torrance, Calif., and Mary Lee Barra of Devore Heights, Calif.; and one grandson.

Leola Lightfoot Spokane

Service for Leola C. Lightfoot, 82, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today.

Burial at Spokane Memorial Gardens will follow the service.

Mrs. Lightfoot, who was born in Spokane, died Monday. She was a 67-year Spokane resident.

She worked in food service for School District 81 for more than 30 years before retiring in 1979.

She played pinochle at Corbin Park Community Center. She also bowled and traveled with the seniors league at North Bowl.

Her husband, Clinton, died in 1986.

She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Bassett of Portland; three sons, Richard Lightfoot and Robert Lightfoot, both of Spokane, and Edward Lightfoot of Los Angeles; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Jennifer Heydt Spokane

Service for Jennifer Louise Heydt, 60, will be at 10 a.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Heydt, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Friday.

A homemaker, she had been a member of the Eagles Lodge Aerie 2. She enjoyed playing bingo.

She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Clifford Heydt; two sons Steve Heydt and John Miller, both of Spokane; two daughters, Sharon Johnston and Debra Haynes, both of Toledo, Ohio; one sister, Betty Romig of Spokane; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Robert Jones Creston, Wash.

No service will be held for Robert Arnold “Bob” Jones, 70, at his request. Strate Funeral Home of Davenport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jones, who was born in Chicago, died Saturday in Spokane.

He graduated from Idaho Junior College and had worked as a cameraman for KXLY-TV for 20 years. He left Spokane in 1973 to be a farmer and farmed until his retirement in 1987.

Mr. Jones served on the Lincoln County Fair Board for nine years and served the last four years of that time as president.

He enjoyed building model ships and airplanes.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 28 years, Karen Jones; one son, Dale Jones of Lewistown, Mont.; three daughters, Deanna Jones of Spokane, Teresa Dehler of Vancouver, Wash., and Brenda Ferril of St. Ignatius, Mont.; one sister, Shirley Flachmeyer of Spokane; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Creston Fire and Ambulance Fund, the Lincoln Hospital Foundation or the Lincoln County Fair.

Robert Geenen Cocolalla, Idaho

Vigil service for Robert A. “Bob” Geenen, 78, will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sandpoint. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Geenen, who was born in Glendale, Ariz., died Tuesday.

He grew up in Portland and attended Portland State University.

He married Frances Vaughn in 1940.

He served with the Army Air Corps in Europe and India during World War II.

Mr. Geenen had worked as a lineman for Southern California Edison Power Co. before moving to Cocolalla in 1952. He also worked for the Washington Water Power Co. and was a lineman for Northern Lights Power Co.

Mr. Geenen enjoyed his family, golf, and riding and training horses.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Survivors include his wife, at home; sons, Robert of Plains, Mont., and Michael and Mark, both of Reno, Nev.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
