Ewu Runner Gets Big Sky Honor

Eastern Washington University’s Nick Rogers is this week’s Big Sky Conference cross country Athlete of the Week.

The sophomore from Snoqualmie, Wash., led his team to a seventh-place finish at the Sundodger Invitational in Seattle. He finished 20th and posted a time of 25 minutes, 54 seconds over the 8-kilometer course.

A field of more than 160 runners will take part in the EWU Invitational cross country meet Saturday morning at Finch Arboretum.

The 3-mile women’s race begins at 10 a.m. and includes a field of 84 runners representing 12 colleges and universities. The men follow at 11 a.m. with 83 runners from eight schools running a 4.5-mile course.

Golf

Jared Jeffries of Mead High and the University of Washington teamed with Scott Shagool for a 4-under 68 in the opening round of the Pacific Northwest Pro-Am Championships at McMinnville, Ore. Three teams are tied for first with rounds of 66.
