Dallas

Dallas scored three goals in the final 49 seconds, including Guy Carbonneau’s winner with 4.4 seconds to play, for a win over Boston.

The Stars trailed 5-3 before Kevin Hatcher knocked a rebound past Boston goalie Craig Billington with 49 seconds remaining for his second goal of the night and fourth of the season.

With Dallas goalie Andy Moog on the bench for a sixth attacker, Mike Modano tied the game with 16 seconds remaining on a 15-foot shot.

Carbonneau then scored the winner at 19:55, converting Mike Kennedy’s pass from behind the net for his second goal of the period and third of the game.

San Jose, Calif.

Alexander Mogilny scored three times as Vancouver got its first win of the season over winless San Jose.

Mogilny, who joined the Canucks in a trade from Buffalo this summer, scored twice in the second period and completed his 11th career hat trick with a goal late in the third period that thwarted a San Jose rally.

Hartford forward Steven Rice scored on a slapshot from the left circle with 2:40 left to cap a comeback victory over Chicago.

Rice took a drop pass from Adam Burt and ripped a 40-footer which struck Chicago goaltender Ed Belfour on the right shoulder before bouncing into the net.

Mikael Renberg’s goal at 8:02 of the third period broke a scoreless tie, and Dominic Roussel stopped 19 shots for his fifth career shutout as Philadelphia beat New York.

Off a faceoff, Renberg wound up with the puck on the right side, skated to the top of the right circle, and fired a turnaround wrist shot that sailed over the glove of a screened Tommy Salo for his second goal of the season giving the Flyers a 2-0 lead.

New Jersey’s defense continued its airtight play behind goaltender Martin Brodeur and the Canadiens’ frustration mounted as the Stanley Cup champions defeated Montreal.

The Canadiens dropped to 0-4, which is Montreal’s worst start since 1938-39 when it lost its first seven games to start off that season.

Rookie Niklas Sundstrom scored his first two NHL goals in the third period to give New York a win over Toronto.

Sundstrom clinched the win at 13:48 on a shorthanded two-on-one with Mark Messier. He finished off the play with a shot to the short side over Dennis Potvin’s glove.
