Suspect Arrested After Assault At Bar

From Staff Reports

Spokane police arrested and restrained a man they say beat a bartender with a metal bar during a scuffle in a downtown Spokane bar late Friday.

Bruce Nunn was arrested and charged with first-degree assault following the attack, which sent the bartender to the hospital with a broken nose.

When police arrested Nunn, 32, he began to fight with them, said Dick Cottam, a police spokesman.

Officers handcuffed Nunn, restrained his legs, placed him in a blanket and took him to the Spokane County Jail were he was booked for first-degree assault.

Police said the bartender heard somebody pounding at the back door of the Midway Tavern at 327 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. about 10 p.m. The bartender opened the door, and the man began hitting him in the face with a 16-inch metal bar.

He was able to force the man outside and the man ran from the bar.

The bartender told police he had thrown Nunn, a transient, out of the bar earlier Friday night.

Nunn, who returned to the bar while police interviewed the bartender in a patrol car, walked up to the car and threatened the bartender, police said.
