D.C. Scrambles To Get Ready
The Million Man March of black men steps off today amid questions about logistics and debates about the goals of its organizer, Louis Farrakhan.
Farrakhan canceled two national television appearances after new comments about Jewish “bloodsuckers” revived charges of anti-Semitism. Aides said the leader of the Nation Of Islam needed rest.
The Million Man March, which is really more of a rally, dawns with a number of uncertainties - who is scheduled to speak, whether the stage will be completed, whether traffic will be able to flow and where the cars and buses will park.
Organizers said scheduled speakers include Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson, poet Maya Angelou and civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks, but a final list was not available Sunday.
The program is to run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. PDT. CNN and C-SPAN are planning live coverage.
