Hanauer Wins Race, National Points Title

Miss Budweiser, piloted by Chip Hanauer of Seattle, turned in an average speed of 145 mph Sunday at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii to win the JN Automotive Hydrofest, becoming the first boat to claim the national title five years in a row.

Mark Tate drove Smokin’ Joe’s to a second place finish and PICO, driven by Dave Villwock, was third. Smokin’ Joe’s also finished second in the final point standings.

Miss Outrigger caught fire during the five-lap race, forcing Scott Pierce to jump into the water to escape injury as he brought the boat back to the dock.

The U-19 Appian/Renegade driven by Tom Hindley of Spokane finished third in heat 1B and 2A, but dropped out of the third heat due to fuel control problems. Hindley didn’t make the final.
