Phone Workers Reach Pact With Us West

Compiled From Wire Services

The Communications Workers of America said Monday it has reached a tentative contract agreement with US West Direct that calls for a 10.5 percent pay increase over three years.

The contract still must be approved by an estimated 1,400 union workers at the telephone directory business of US West.

The proposed contract would grant workers a 4 percent wage increase immediately, a 3.5 percent increase in October 1996 and a 3 percent increase in October 1997.

US West Direct also agreed to make improvements in the company savings plan and medical benefits.

Upon ratification of the contract, each worker will receive $850.
