Teen Shot, One Killed During Robbery

The body of a 17-year-old boy was recovered Wednesday from the Duwamish River, and police were seeking two men in a van who shot the victim and another teen who survived.

The 18-year-old survivor said he and the dead youth - cousins from north Seattle - were walking along Pacific Highway South after midnight when a blue van pulled to the roadside and its two occupants motioned them over.

When they got to the van, one of the men pulled out a handgun and ordered them to get in, Tukwila Police Lt. Craig Westby said.

The victims, whose names were not immediately disclosed, were robbed of their money and clothing and tied up with tape, Westby said.

They then were taken to a point near the river, walked down an embankment and forced into the water.

“Immediately thereafter one or both the suspects began shooting into the water at the victims,” police said in a news release. “Undetermined multiple rounds were fired, with both victims receiving gunshot injuries.”

The survivor, shot in the upper arm, made it to shore and flagged down a car about 2 a.m. He was treated at Highline Hospital and released to investigators.

After an hour’s search, police found the 17-year-old’s body on the river’s edge. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the torso.

The motive for the attack appeared to be robbery, police said.

The two suspects were described as black men in their 20s.
