If It’s Harp Music You Want, Head For The Cathedral

Most people have never seen two harps together, much less more than three dozen.

The 1995 Harp Festival, featuring an ensemble of 38 harps, will take place Sunday at 4 p.m. at St. John’s Cathedral, 12th and Grand Boulevard. The concert is free; a donation will be accepted.

This concert is the culminating event of a weekend-long gathering of harpists in Spokane. They will be taking seminars and classes from master harpists, as well as rehearsing for the big Sunday performance, according to event coordinator Leslie Stratton Norris.

The massed harps will be played by people ranging in age from 8 to 65. The 75-minute program will include classics (“Claire de Lune” by Debussy), contemporary works (“La Regazza,” by Bernard Andres), jazz (“Ten Past Two,” by Chertok) and children’s music (“It’s A Small World,” “The Lion King”).

At 3:30 p.m., a prelude program will be played by Ron and Carol Price, a harp and hammer dulcimer duo.
