Nic Hosts Officials From Korean College

From Staff And Wire Reports

When Yang-Kyun Oh came to North Idaho this week, he fell in love with a sugar maple tree.

As chairman of the Chung Cheong Junior College of Chung Buk, Korea, Oh was visiting officials from North Idaho College, which recently became a sister college to Chung Cheong.

When NIC officials took Oh and his entourage of Chung Cheong deans and an instructor on a tour of other area schools, Oh had to stop and marvel at a lovely sugar maple tree at Gonzaga University.

“He wanted to take a tree back with him to Korea,” said Steve Schenk, NIC’s dean of college relations. “It turns out that that’s virtually impossible.”

So NIC purchased a young sugar maple, and presented it to Oh on Friday. It will be planted in Oh’s honor next to the college administration building.

The visitors are scheduled to fly back to Korea today.
